The Owerri Archdiocesan Security Service OASS on Friday, 11th of July 2024 at the Assumpta pavilion celebrated the passing-out parade of their Pioneer Cadets under the chairmanship of Chief Jerry Chukwueke, and His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodinma ably represented by Chief Cosmos Iwu, secretary to the governor government as chief guest of honour.

In his opening speech, the Archbishop of the Owerri Metropolitan See, Most Revd. Dr. Lucius Iwejuru Ugorji said that the necessity for a well secured church environment cannot be overemphasized, and the security of lives and properties within the church community is a collective responsibility he further said. The church, he said, is the microcosm of the larger society and must contribute its quota to the security umbrella of the state government. He called on men and women with the means, capacity, and expertise to support the church in this venture.

The chairman of the occasion, Chief Jerry Chukwueke, in his opening remarks, thanked His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodinma, the chief security officer of the state for restoring peace and calm in a very significant way in Imo State and for the manifest support to Owerri Archdiocese of the Catholic church to which, the success story of today is made possible. The chairman also expressed appreciation to the church for the laudable and innovative church security architecture. He agreed with Archbishop that security is everyone's business, and men of goodwill should help to make it succeed. The great mobilizer, as he is fondly called, reminded the graduates that they are now the security ambassadors of the church of God and must live exemplary life. He said that the church will henceforth also be viewed in the way they conduct their duties, their track records, discipline, and the trust factor. He further said that they must avoid caustic statements to the public as the testimony of their conduct and perception will encourage others to join the group.

Ohamadike of Owerri, further said that the initiative of the Catholic Archdiocese of Owerri is also a private sector initiative and therefore a job creation venture that will gainfully employ our teeming unemployed youths in the state and beyond. He admonished the young Cadets of OASS to represent the church well because it will have a medium and longtime effect on the growth and development of the group.

To the board of trustees of OASS, Chief Chukwueke urged them to ensure that the young men and women who are engaged are properly motivated  to do their work with dignity.

He doled out Five Million Naira (N5,000,000) to the group.

In his remarks, Gen. SB Chikwe, the former Provost  Marshall, Chief of Operations, and former GOC of Nigeria Army, said that in response to the appeal by his friend and political leader, Chief Jerry Chukwueke, he will offer a voluntary technical support in his field of expertise to the innovative outfit. He donated the sum of three hundred thousand (N300,000) naira on behalf of himself and his friend Chief George Egu.

His Excellency Senator Hope Uzodimma, expressed appreciation of the model security architecture of Church. He assured that the government will provide material support to Church security services and to any other outfit purposed to bring peace and civility to the state. He also thanked Archbishop for his continued prayer for peace and unity in Imo State.
